At Hay It Forward, our vision is to strengthen the entire rescue ecosystem in Wyoming by ensuring consistent, reliable access to forage for grazing animals in rescues and sanctuaries. By addressing feed insecurity, the single largest operational challenge most rescues face, we help organizations shift their focus from survival to responsible growth and long-term animal care. With community support, we are able to expand our reach, purchase and distribute greater quantities of locally sourced hay, and stabilize care for animals during the most critical seasons. Each contribution directly increases the number of animals that can be safely supported, while reinforcing Wyoming’s agricultural community and building a sustainable, long-term solution for animals in need.

We purchase hay directly from multiple Wyoming farmers, keeping agricultural dollars local while ensuring a reliable food supply for animals in rescue care. By sourcing hay within our region, we strengthen rural economies, reduce transportation costs, and maintain consistent quality and availability during high-risk seasons. Every bale we purchase is funded through donations, meaning community support translates immediately into measurable impact. As donations increase, we are able to secure and distribute greater quantities of hay, stabilizing feed access for partner rescues, reducing their largest operating expense, and allowing them to redirect limited resources toward veterinary care, shelter improvements, and safe animal transport. In this way, each contribution not only feeds animals in need but also expands the number of animals Wyoming rescues can responsibly accept and care for.

By providing immediate access to hay, our organization removes the single greatest limiting factor faced by Wyoming animal rescues: feed insecurity. When hay is reliably available, rescue partners no longer ask whether they can afford to feed additional animals, but instead focus on how many animals they can safely and responsibly help.
This shift creates measurable, structural impact. At current Wyoming hay prices, distributing 200–300 tons of hay represents approximately $50,000–$90,000 or more in avoided feed costs across partner organizations. Those redirected funds are then applied directly to essential care, including veterinary treatment, farrier services, shelter and fencing repairs, and safe transport and quarantine, significantly improving both animal welfare and rescue sustainability.
